The desk behind the broker reviews

Kenya trades with - since 2014.

Kenya Forex Firm began as a Nairobi classroom and grew into the country's most-read independent source of forex broker research. We fund live accounts with our own money, push deposits and withdrawals through M-Pesa, and trade real news windows in East Africa Time - then publish exactly what we measured. Around that research desk sits a training academy that has taught tens of thousands of Kenyans to treat the market as a profession, not a lottery. This page is our masthead: who we are, how we work, and the policies that keep the research honest.

SECTION I - WHAT WE PUBLISH

Eight beats, one ledger: everything a Kenyan trader gets asked at the door.

From broker safety to M-Pesa payout speed, our research follows the questions real traders bring to the desk - and every beat links back to the live library.

UPDATED WEEKLY · 400+ ARTICLES

SECTION II - THE STANDARD

How a broker earns a score from this desk.

Six steps, all of them performed with our own capital. Nothing is reviewed from a brochure, and nothing is published from a press kit.

DESK RULE №1

“If our own money won't survive the broker, your money won't either - and it doesn't get published.”

- THE REVIEW DESK, NAIROBI

  1. STEP 01

We open live accounts with our own money

No demo-only verdicts. The review desk funds a real account at every broker we cover, from the minimum deposit upward, so every claim is drawn from a genuine trading ledger.

  2. STEP 02

Licence check - CMA first, then the world

We verify Capital Markets Authority status before anything else, then audit tier-one offshore licences, client-money segregation and the broker's complaint record.

  3. STEP 03

    Thirty days of cost logging

Spreads on EUR/USD and XAU/USD are sampled across the London and New York sessions for a full month; commissions, swap rates and inactivity fees go into the same ledger.

  4. STEP 04

    Execution stress-tests in EAT hours

We trade NFP, CPI and Kenya-relevant news windows from Nairobi to measure slippage, requotes and platform stability when it actually matters for East African traders.

  5. STEP 05

    The M-Pesa round trip

Deposit via M-Pesa, trade, withdraw via M-Pesa. We clock both legs and publish the timings - brokers whose withdrawals stall are downgraded on the spot.

  6. STEP 06

    Score, publish, re-verify quarterly

Scores follow our public weighting. Once published, every review goes back on the desk every quarter - and faster when a broker changes its terms.

SECTION III - THE MASTHEAD NAME

Founder & Chief Editor: Patrick Mahinge.

Editorial illustration of Patrick Mahinge, Founder and Chief Editor of Kenya Forex Firm, at his trading desk in Nairobi

PLATE 01 - THE FOUNDER'S DESK

NBO · EST. 2008

“Most Kenyans don't lose to the market. They lose to brokers they never checked and risk they never sized. We built this desk to fix both.”

Patrick Mahinge started teaching forex in Nairobi in 2008, at a time when the phrase “forex education” barely existed in Kenya. What began as classroom sessions for prospective traders grew into Kenya Forex Firm - first an academy, then the country's most referenced independent source of broker reviews.

As Chief Editor, Patrick sets the desk standard that every review follows: live accounts funded with the firm's own money, M-Pesa round-trip testing, licences verified against the Capital Markets Authority, and scores that brokers learn about when readers do. He writes and edits across the broker library, leads the firm's FinTech and crypto coverage, and still teaches at the academy - because the research and the classroom were never meant to be separate things.

  • Founded Kenya Forex Firm in 2008 as a Nairobi forex training institution
  • Senior forex market analyst and author of the firm's broker research
  • Digital marketing and FinTech specialist; cryptocurrencies coverage lead
  • Alumnus of Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology (MMUST)
  • Widely credited among the pioneers of modern forex education in Kenya

The rest of the desk

DESK 01

The Review Desk

Analysts who fund, trade and break-test every broker on the list - the people behind the scores, the spread ledgers and the withdrawal stopwatches.

DESK 02

The Faculty

Academy mentors who teach price action, risk and psychology in the classroom, turning seventeen years of desk notes into a curriculum.

DESK 03

The Compliance Desk

The check on our own work - licence verification, conflict-of-interest screening, corrections log and the quarterly re-verification calendar.

Names and bylines appear on every author page - every article carries the analyst accountable for it.

SECTION IV - THE RULES WE PUBLISH UNDER

Five policies, on the record - built to newsroom standard.

These are the same documents our masthead schema points to: ethics, corrections, feedback, diversity, and who pays for what. Read them once; hold us to them forever.

POL–01

Ethics Policy

Our first duty is to the trader reading us, not to the broker paying attention. Editorial judgement is never for sale, and every commercial relationship is disclosed where a reader can find it.

  • Rankings and scores are decided by the review desk alone - advertising, partnerships and affiliate relationships never buy placement.
  • Where we earn an affiliate commission from a broker link, it is disclosed inside the article. Brokers are told scores only after publication.
  • Reviewers may not trade at, hold referrals with, or accept gifts from any broker under active review.
  • Editorial coverage is kept separate from the academy's commercial training operations; students are never steered toward paying partners.
  • Sponsored content, where it ever runs, is labelled as such above the headline - never blended into research.

POL–02

Corrections Policy

Markets move fast and facts go stale. When we are wrong - or when a broker changes its terms - we correct the record quickly, visibly and permanently.

  • Factual errors are corrected within 24 hours of verification, with a dated correction note appended to the article.
  • Material changes - a licence revoked, a fee introduced, a payout delayed - trigger a full re-test and a revised score, not a footnote.
  • Every review carries a 'last verified' date; quarterly re-verification keeps the broker library honest.
  • Readers can report an error to help@kenyaforexfirm.com with the subject line 'Correction'. Reports are acknowledged the same business day.
  • A correction log records what changed and why, so earlier versions are never quietly rewritten.

POL–03

Actionable Feedback Policy

Feedback is treated as research input. Traders who use these brokers every day see things our desk cannot - and their reports change what we publish.

  • Withdrawal complaints, platform failures and support incidents reported by readers are logged and, once corroborated, folded into review scores.
  • Write to help@kenyaforexfirm.com or use the contact desk; include the broker, dates and any ticket numbers. We reply within two business days.
  • Repeated, corroborated complaints about a broker escalate to a formal re-test and can lead to a downgrade or removal from our lists.
  • Feedback on our teaching - curriculum, mentors, materials - goes directly to the academy faculty with a termly response published to students.
  • We answer every substantive message. Silence from us is a bug, not a policy; chase us if it happens.

POL–04

Diversity Policy

Kenya's trading community spans counties, languages, ages and incomes. Our research, classroom and hiring reflect that - and our content is built to be usable by all of it.

  • Content is written in clear English with Swahili context where it helps, and reviewed for readability by traders outside Nairobi.
  • Guides assume real Kenyan conditions: KES accounts, M-Pesa funding, mobile-first access and variable connectivity.
  • Academy scholarships and community sessions prioritise women and first-time traders from under-served counties.
  • Hiring across the desk and the faculty is open and merit-based; we publish who we are on this page, not behind it.
  • Our materials target accessibility standards - structured headings, alt text on charts and keyboard-navigable pages.

POL–05

Ownership & Funding

Kenya Forex Firm is privately held and independently operated. You can see exactly who owns it, and exactly how the lights stay on.

  • Founded in 2014 and owned by Patrick Mahinge, who also serves as Chief Editor. There are no outside shareholders and no broker ownership of the firm.
  • Revenue comes from three streams: academy training fees, clearly-disclosed affiliate commissions, and labelled advertising.
  • No broker, liquidity provider or fintech holds equity, debt or contractual control over editorial output.
  • Editorial budget and commercial budget are accounted separately; the desk's testing accounts are funded from editorial revenue.
  • The full breakdown of how we earn is available on request from the contact desk - ask and it is answered.

SECTION V - EIGHTEEN YEARS ON THE DESK

From a Nairobi classroom to the masthead you're reading.

  1. 2014

    A classroom in Nairobi

Patrick Mahinge founds Kenya Forex Firm as a forex training institution, teaching prospective traders how the market actually works - long before 'forex education' was a local industry.

  2. 2012

    From pupils to practitioners

The academy formalises its mentorship track. Graduates begin trading full time, and their broker horror stories become the raw material for our first research notes.

  3. 2016

    The research desk goes public

kenyaforexfirm.com launches with a public blog, turning private research notes into open broker reviews written for Kenyan trading conditions.

  4. 2019

    The M-Pesa protocol

We become the first local desk to make M-Pesa deposit-and-withdrawal round trips a mandatory, timed part of every broker review.

  5. 2022

    Real money, real accounts

The live-funding standard is adopted desk-wide: no broker is scored without our own capital on the line, sampled across real news windows.

  6. 2024

    A hundred reviews deep

The broker library passes 120 first-hand reviews. Author pages, fact-check stamps and quarterly re-verification become standard on every article.

  7. 2026

Today - the masthead you're reading

Over 400 guides published, traders trained in the tens of thousands, and a policy suite built to NewsMediaOrganisation standard. Still independent. Still Nairobi.

SECTION VI - ASKED AT THE DESK

Fair questions, straight answers.

The six things readers ask us most - independence, money, method. If yours isn't here, the contact desk answers every substantive message.

Yes. The firm is privately owned by founder Patrick Mahinge with no broker, fintech or outside investor holding equity or editorial control. Rankings are decided by the review desk using our published scoring weights, and no placement is for sale.

Three disclosed streams: fees from the trading academy, affiliate commissions when readers choose a broker through our links (never tied to our scores), and clearly-labelled advertising. Affiliate relationships are disclosed inside the reviews themselves.

Yes - that is the desk standard. We open live accounts funded with our own capital, trade through real news events in East Africa Time, and complete an M-Pesa deposit–withdrawal round trip before any score is published.

No. Everything on the blog, the broker library, the strategy guides and the session maps is free to read. The academy's structured training and mentorship are the paid side of the firm, and the two are kept editorially separate.

Coverage follows Kenyan trader demand: brokers that accept Kenyan clients, support M-Pesa or local banks, and hold credible regulation. Reader requests matter - email the contact desk and a broker with enough demand goes onto the testing queue.

Report it to help@kenyaforexfirm.com with the subject 'Correction'. Verified factual errors are fixed within 24 hours with a dated note on the article; material changes at a broker trigger a full re-test and a revised score.

SECTION VII - ON THE RECORD

The factsheet: write to the desk.

Corrections, broker requests, partnerships, student queries - everything lands in the same inbox and gets a human reply within two business days.

RISK WARNING - READ BEFORE YOU TRADE

Trading foreign exchange, CFDs and leveraged products on margin carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for every investor. A large proportion of retail accounts lose money when trading leveraged products. You should carefully consider your objectives, experience and risk appetite before committing funds - and never trade money you cannot afford to lose. Kenya Forex Firm provides research and education, not personalised financial advice.
