The policy, at a glance

01

Independence first

Rankings and scores are never for sale. No broker, affiliate network or advertiser can buy, lift or suppress a rating.

02

Disclose every shilling

If a link earns us commission, it is labelled - on the page, in the review, and in plain language a first-time trader can understand.

03

Test with real money

Every ranked broker is tested with funded accounts - deposits via M-Pesa and bank, live spreads, withdrawals timed and logged.

04

Correct the record

Mistakes are amended, dated and listed in a public corrections log. A correction is never a silent rewrite.

05

Protect reader data

We collect the minimum, sell nothing, and handle personal data under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.

06

Answer to the public

Anyone - reader, broker or regulator - can challenge our work through a published complaints channel with binding timelines.

Plain-language promise: if any clause below is unclear, email ethics@kenyaforexfirm.com - we will explain it in writing and improve the wording in the next revision.

Preamble & Purpose

Foundation

Kenya Forex Firm (kenyaforexfirm.com) is an independent digital publisher serving retail traders in Kenya and East Africa. We research, test and review forex and CFD brokers, publish rankings and comparison tables, and produce trader-education articles on our blog. Because our recommendations influence where real people place real money, we hold ourselves to a published standard of conduct - this Ethics Policy.

This policy sets the binding rules for everyone who researches, writes, edits, monetises or publishes under the Kenya Forex Firm name. It exists to protect three parties, in order: our readers, the integrity of our editorial record, and the reputation of the publication itself.

  • It applies to every page we publish - broker reviews, 'best brokers' rankings, comparison tables, guides and blog articles.
  • It is enforceable: breaches trigger the disciplinary procedure in Clause 13, up to and including removal of bylines and termination of contracts.
  • It is public: readers and brokers alike may hold us to it by citing any clause in a complaint.
02

Scope & Who Is Bound

Application

This policy binds the founder and chief editor, staff writers, contributing analysts, freelance reviewers, editors, affiliate managers, developers and any contractor whose work is published on, or earns revenue through, Kenya Forex Firm. It also governs our conduct towards the brokers we cover, their affiliates, agencies and networks.

  • Every contributor signs this policy before their first byline and re-affirms it at each annual review.
  • Commercial staff (partnerships, advertising) operate under a firewall described in Clause 3 and may not edit or influence editorial output.
  • Where Kenyan law - including the Capital Markets Act, the Data Protection Act, 2019, and CMA guidance - sets a higher standard, the law prevails.
03

Editorial Independence

The firewall

Our scores are earned in testing, not negotiated in meetings. The editorial team has sole authority over which brokers are reviewed, how they score, where they rank and what the copy says. Commercial relationships with brokers or affiliate networks create revenue; they never create editorial obligation.

  • No 'pay for placement': paid, sponsored or incentivised listings in rankings and comparison tables are prohibited, outright.
  • Brokers may review a draft solely for factual accuracy (e.g. a quoted spread figure) before publication. They may not see scores, rankings or conclusions, and factual review never delays publication beyond 72 hours.
  • A broker ending or threatening an affiliate relationship is never grounds to amend a score. Such pressure is logged and, where material, disclosed in the review itself.
  • Editorial staff compensation is never tied to the performance of any individual broker link or campaign.

The firewall rule

Money flows one way - from partners to the business. Influence flows the other way - from the newsroom to the page. Anyone who attempts to trade one for the other is in breach of this policy.

04

Affiliate Disclosure & Revenue Model

Follow the money

Transparency is the rent we pay for our readers' trust, and we pay it up front. Kenya Forex Firm earns revenue primarily through affiliate commissions: when a reader opens and funds an account via a link on our site, the broker pays us a fee. We may also earn from clearly-labelled advertising and partner content.

  • Every review, ranking and comparison page carries a prominent disclosure above the fold, in plain English - not a footnote.
  • Where a link is an affiliate link, the relationship is stated before the reader clicks: e.g. 'We may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.'
  • Commission size is never an input to our scoring model (Clause 5). If two brokers score equally, ranking order follows our published methodology - never payout rate.
  • We publish how we make money on a dedicated disclosure page, and this policy restates it in full: commissions, display advertising, and labelled partner content. No other revenue channel is permitted without amending this policy.

The disclosure test

If a reasonable reader would feel surprised to learn how we were paid on a page, the disclosure has failed. We write disclosures to be noticed, not to be compliant.

05

Review Methodology & Scoring Integrity

How scores are made

Every ranked broker is evaluated against a fixed, published scorecard. Testers open real accounts with company funds, deposit using methods Kenyan traders actually use - M-Pesa, local bank transfer and cards - and record spreads, execution, platform behaviour, support responses and withdrawal turnaround with timestamps.

Published scorecard weighting (v4, effective Jan 2026)
CriterionWeightWhat we verify

Trading costs20%Live EUR/USD & XAU/USD spreads sampled at Nairobi peak hours; commissions; swap and inactivity fees

Execution quality10%Slippage and requotes during news events; order-fill data
Research & education8%Quality of local market analysis and beginner education
Customer support7%Response time and accuracy via live chat, phone and email - tested anonymously

Published scorecard weighting (v4, effective Jan 2026)

  • Scores require a minimum of 15 business days of live testing before first publication.
  • Rankings are re-tested at least every six months, and re-scored within 14 days of any material event - a licence change, a regulator sanction, or a withdrawal-processing failure.
  • Test accounts are funded from company accounts only. Testers never trade personal accounts with a broker under active review, and bonuses offered by brokers are never used to alter results.
  • The full methodology, including sample logs, is available to any reader on request.

06

Advertising, Sponsored & Partner Content

Labelled or nothing

Advertising supports our independence by diversifying revenue - provided it is unmistakable. All paid material is labelled before a reader engages with it, and paid material never masquerades as editorial judgement.

  • Sponsored articles and broker-supplied content carry a visible 'Partner Content' or 'Advertisement' label at the top of the page, in the same type size as the headline kicker.
  • Sponsored content is excluded from rankings, scorecards and 'best of' lists, and is never interlinked as if it were editorial.
  • Display banners are sold on a published rate basis. Banner presence has zero weight in our scoring model, and we do not accept banners from entities we have flagged as unregulated or unsafe.
  • We decline advertising from brokers without verifiable licensing, from 'signal' and account-management schemes promising guaranteed returns, and from any product we would not let a family member trade.
07

Conflicts of Interest

Declare or recuse

A conflict is not misconduct - an undisclosed conflict is. Everyone bound by this policy must declare actual, potential and perceived conflicts to the chief editor, who maintains a conflicts register reviewed quarterly.

  • Staff and contributors may not hold personal trading accounts with a broker they are actively reviewing, nor trade that broker's instruments personally during the review window.
  • Gifts, hospitality or perks above KES 5,000 in value must be declined or declared and logged; travel, accommodation or event sponsorship from a broker under review is always declined.
  • Writers who have previously worked for, consulted to, or hold material equity in a broker must recuse themselves from that broker's coverage for at least 12 months.
  • The chief editor discloses his own holdings and affiliations to the Editorial Standards Committee and publishes a standing interests note each January.
08

Accuracy, Fact-Checking & Corrections

The public record

We publish with named bylines and dated version notes because we intend to stand behind every figure. Two independent checks - the testing log and an editor's review - precede publication of any score, fee figure or regulatory claim.

  • Verified errors are corrected within 48 hours of confirmation, with the change dated on the article and recorded in the corrections log below.
  • Material corrections (scores, regulatory status, fees) carry an inline editor's note explaining what changed and why. Silent rewriting of the record is prohibited.
  • Readers can report an error via corrections@kenyaforexfirm.com; every report receives a reply within 5 business days.

Risk Disclosure & Responsible Publishing

First, do no harm

Forex and CFD trading is high-risk and unsuitable for many people. Our duty is to say so plainly, prominently and often - not to bury risk in the footer. We publish for adults making their own decisions, and we never pretend otherwise.

  • Every review and ranking page carries the standard risk warning: between 74% and 89% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs, and readers should consider whether they can afford to lose their money.
  • We do not provide personal investment advice, managed-account referrals, or 'guaranteed profit' claims - and we remove partner content that makes them.
  • We verify broker regulation against primary sources - the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya register for local licensing, plus tier-1 regulators where relevant - and we link to the registers so readers can verify for themselves.
  • Content targeting beginners includes realistic capital expectations, the costs of leverage, and where to get help for problem gambling and trading addiction.

What we will never publish

Promises of guaranteed returns, doctored account screenshots, unlicensed brokers presented as safe, or urgency tactics ('last chance to deposit'). Any partner content containing these is pulled and the partnership reviewed.

10

Community & Comment Standards

Readers' house rules

Where we open discussion - comments, newsletters, social channels - the same standards of honesty apply to us and to participants. Debate is welcome; deception is not.

  • No impersonation of Kenya Forex Firm staff or of brokers' support teams, and no posting of referral links disguised as advice.
  • No abuse, harassment, or hate speech directed at other readers, writers or named individuals.
  • Claims about brokers should be identifiable and verifiable where possible; knowingly false accusations are removed and repeat offenders banned.
  • Moderation decisions are made by editorial staff, not by brokers; a broker named in a critical comment may respond on the record, not veto.
11

Privacy & Data Ethics

Your data, our duty

Reader data is held in trust, not as inventory. Our collection is minimal, our retention is bounded, and our processing is described in full in the site Privacy Policy, which is governed by this clause.

  • We collect only what a feature requires - e.g. an email address for a newsletter - and state the purpose at the point of collection.
  • Personal data is never sold, rented or traded. Affiliate click-tracking uses the network's standard identifiers and is never enriched with personal data beyond what the network requires for attribution.
  • Data handling complies with the Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya) and is registered with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner where required; EU/UK readers receive equivalent protections.
  • Readers may request access, correction or deletion of their data at privacy@kenyaforexfirm.com, answered within 14 days.
12

Complaints, Whistleblowing & Escalation

Held to account

Anyone - a reader, a broker, a partner or a member of staff - may raise a concern about our conduct or content. Complaints are handled under fixed timelines so that accountability is a process, not a promise.

Escalation ladder
StageHandled byTimeline

3. AppealPatrick Mahinge, Founder & Chief EditorDecision within 10 days, published where it concerns public content
4. External recourseCMA (investment business), ODPC (data matters), or the courts of KenyaAt the complainant's discretion, at any stage

Escalation ladder

  • Staff may report breaches internally without fear of retaliation; reports may be anonymous and are logged by the chief editor personally.
  • Where a complaint concerns the chief editor himself, it is handled by an external editorial adviser appointed by the Editorial Standards Committee.
  • Complainants are never charged, deprioritised or 'de-ranked' - and brokers who complain are scored by the same methodology as those who do not.
13

Enforcement, Breaches & Sanctions

Teeth

A policy without consequences is decoration. Breaches of this charter are investigated by the Editorial Standards Committee and sanctioned proportionately, with serious or repeated breaches escalating quickly.

  • Minor breach (e.g. late disclosure label): written guidance and retraining within 7 days.
  • Material breach (e.g. undisclosed conflict, score altered under commercial pressure): byline withdrawn, article corrected with an editor's note, and suspension pending review.
  • Gross breach (e.g. accepting payment for a ranking, falsifying test logs): termination of contract, public correction, and disclosure to partners and, where relevant, regulators.
  • Sanctions are recorded in the internal register and summarised anonymously in the annual standards report published each January.
