Before we even consider a hands-on review, a firm must pass our initial due diligence.
Reputation & Regulation: We scour online forums (like Forex Factory, Reddit), social media, and trusted review sites (like Trustpilot) to gauge community sentiment. We look for patterns of complaints, especially regarding payouts, rule changes, and customer support. While most prop firms are unregulated, we check their corporate registration and history.
Website & Transparency: We conduct a thorough audit of the firm's website. Are the rules of the evaluation clear, concise, and unambiguous? Are the payout terms, fees, and profit splits prominently displayed? We penalize firms that hide crucial information in fine print.
Relevance to Kenyans: We verify that the firm accepts clients from Kenya. We also check for deposit and withdrawal methods that are accessible and affordable for Kenyans, such as M-Pesa, mobile banking, or low-fee crypto transfers.
If a firm passes the initial screening, we commit our own capital to go through their evaluation process, just like any other trader.
Account Purchase & Onboarding: We document the entire sign-up process. How smooth is it? Are the instructions clear? We use a standard account size for consistency, typically a $10,000 or $25,000 challenge.
Trading Conditions Analysis: We execute trades on major, minor, and exotic pairs at different times of the day to measure spreads, commissions, execution speed, and platform stability.
Rule Adherence Test: We trade deliberately close to the drawdown limits and other rules to see how they are enforced. Is the tracking dashboard accurate and updated in real-time?
Passing the evaluation is only half the battle. The real test is getting paid.
Transition to Funded Account: Once we pass, we analyze the transition process. How quickly is the funded account issued? Are the credentials and rules for the live account clear?
First Profit & Payout Request: We aim to secure a reasonable profit and then immediately request a payout. This is the single most critical step where we test process, speed, fees, and communication.
After completing the entire process, we compile all our data and score the firm across several key, weighted categories to determine their final ranking.
Each prop firm that we review is rated across five weighted categories to produce a final, objective score. Payout reliability and support carry the most weight, as they are critical to a trader's success.

A prop firm's integrity is revealed not by its promises, but by its performance under pressure. We conduct a hands-on audit of the two most critical functions: getting paid and getting help.
We assess the user interface for clarity and ease of use. A convoluted process is an immediate red flag, often designed to create friction.
We time every withdrawal to a Kenyan-accessible account, comparing it against the firm's stated processing times. Delays without clear reasons are heavily penalized.
We meticulously check for any undisclosed commissions or transfer charges. Hidden fees are a cardinal sin in our evaluation.
We test all support channels, measuring response times during peak Kenyan trading hours (London & NY sessions). A 24/5 promise must be a 24/5 reality.
We pose a series of simple and complex questions to test for knowledgeable, non-evasive answers. Generic scripts indicate poor training.
We manufacture a 'problem' to assess their resolution process. A firm that empowers its support team to solve issues demonstrates a trader-centric culture.
"A commitment to fast, transparent payouts and knowledgeable, accessible support is the bedrock of a trustworthy partnership. It is the definitive proof that a firm sees its traders not as customers, but as valuable partners in success."
- Patrick Mahinge
The structure of a firm's evaluation and scaling plan separates legitimate partnerships from revenue schemes. We conduct a forensic examination of its viability as a long-term career path.
Reasonable targets (8-10%) are key. Unusually high targets pressure traders into excessive risk, contradicting sound risk management principles.
The most critical rule. We strongly prefer static drawdowns over restrictive trailing ones. A max drawdown of 8-12% is the industry standard for fairness.
Unlimited time shows confidence in drawdown rules as the primary filter. We scrutinize overly prohibitive rules that can stifle legitimate trading strategies.
We look for clear, achievable triggers, like a 10% profit goal for an account increase. Vague plans that rely on a 'manager's review' are a major red flag.
An 80% split is a strong start, but firms offering progression to 90% or more demonstrate a true partnership model where success is shared.
Trader-friendly firms decouple withdrawals from scaling. You should be able to access your earnings without penalizing your account's growth.
A firm's technology is the ultimate expression of its commitment. We conduct a deep dive into the stability, speed, and efficiency of the infrastructure they provide.
We favor firms offering MT4/MT5 for their familiarity and stability. Proprietary platforms are heavily scrutinized for usability and feature parity.
We investigate the reputation and regulatory standing of the firm's liquidity provider. A partnership with a top-tier broker is a massive vote of confidence.
For traders in Kenya, we measure execution speed from our location. Anything above 150ms can significantly impact slippage, especially for scalpers.
We run the firm's platform alongside a raw institutional data feed to check for price discrepancies. The data must be accurate and unfiltered.
The dashboard must provide instant, accurate tracking of all critical metrics (drawdown, profit target). A lagging dashboard is a critical failure.
Information must be presented clearly and intuitively. The dashboard should be a tool for empowerment, not a source of confusion.
