Is Quotex Legit in Kenya: The Truth After 45 Days and KES 16,000 of My Own Money

I opened a real Quotex account, funded it with KES 16,000 via M-Pesa, logged 150+ trades across forex, crypto and stocks, and timed every withdrawal end-to-end. What follows is the unsponsored, uncomfortable, full-file review Kenyan traders actually need - including the IFMRRC truth nobody else prints.

8.9of 10

The highest payouts and largest asset selection, but with the weakest regulatory wrapper.

Quotex is a legit binary options trading platform that delivers up to 95% payouts on majors and the deepest asset shelf in the offshore binary space with 400+ instruments. But Kenyan traders receive minimal regulatory protection - IFMRRC is a private dispute body, not a government regulator. Know that before you fund.

Open Quotex

01 - Who is Quotex, really?

Quotex is an international online trading brand founded in 2019 and registered in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. The company launched as a binary options broker focused on emerging markets and has since expanded to offer 400+ instruments across forex, stocks, cryptocurrencies, commodities, and indices - the largest asset selection in the offshore binary space.

What most Kenyan readers don't realise is that Quotex operates through a single legal entity registered in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, with IFMRRC membership. Unlike some competitors that split their operations between regulated EU entities and offshore shells, Quotex keeps everything under one roof with minimal oversight.

Quotex differentiates itself through highest payouts (up to 95%), largest asset selection (400+ instruments), and three-tier account structure that rewards higher deposits with better payouts. The platform is genuinely competitive - the $10 minimum deposit and intuitive interface make it accessible to most traders. But the regulatory story is where things get uncomfortable.

The Quotex platform on web and mobile - clean, intuitive design with the largest asset selection in offshore binary space.

Over the past six years at Kenya Forex Firm, I have personally opened and funded accounts with more than 60 offshore brokers. Quotex is one of the handful that has survived multiple re-tests, which tells you something about its operational durability - even if its regulatory architecture remains thin by any standard.

02 - Regulation & the IFMRRC truth

Let's put the regulatory picture on the table in plain English, because this is where most Quotex reviews go wrong - or worse, stay silent.

The IFMRRC membership

Quotex claims membership in the International Financial Market Relations Regulation Center (IFMRRC). Here's what that actually means:

  • IFMRRC is a private dispute resolution body, not a government regulator. It cannot fine Quotex, revoke licenses, or compensate clients if the broker fails.
  • IFMRRC membership provides a dispute resolution process, but it's voluntary - Quotex can choose to ignore rulings.
  • Unlike The Financial Commission (which has a €20,000 compensation fund), IFMRRC does not provide any investor compensation.

This is the weakest regulatory wrapper of any broker on this list. If Quotex freezes your funds or disappears, your recourse is essentially zero.

"I have reviewed dozens of offshore brokers, and Quotex's IFMRRC-only membership is the thinnest regulatory wrapper I've seen. Most reviews ignore this entirely. If you're going to trade with Quotex, you need to understand you have essentially no regulatory protection."- Patrick Mahinge, in a 2024 Kenya Forex Firm editorial

What about Kenya's Capital Markets Authority (CMA)?

The CMA has no licensing regime for binary options. No broker offering binaries to Kenyan clients holds a CMA licence for that product, Quotex included. The CMA has repeatedly warned the public against unlicensed online trading platforms. Trading with an offshore broker is not itself a criminal offence for an individual, but if the broker freezes your funds or disappears, no Kenyan authority can recover your money.

IFMRRC membership
YesPrivate dispute body only

NoneNo investor protection

NoneNo binary regime exists

NoneOffshore only

My honest recommendation: treat Quotex as a high-risk offshore broker for Kenya. The IFMRRC-only membership is the weakest regulatory wrapper on this list. Size your positions accordingly - never risk money you cannot afford to lose entirely - and keep your balance lean enough that a worst-case scenario does not change your life.

03 - Account types explained

Quotex offers three account types based on deposit levels. Here is what each one actually does in practice, not what the marketing page claims.

Demo account - the one you should open first

Every new visitor gets a free demo account loaded with $10,000 in virtual funds. There is no time limit, the balance can be refilled as often as you like, and - critically - the demo gives you access to all 400+ instruments and every platform feature including social trading. The demo runs on real market prices, so fills, spreads and slippage behave like the live account.

I spent the first 9 days of my audit exclusively on the demo before depositing real money. That discipline saved me from one strategy that looked great on paper but fell apart under live execution conditions. If you are reading this review, do the same.

Standard account - the default live account

Opens with a $10 minimum deposit (about KES 1,293 at the October 2026 reference rate of 1 USD = KES 129.30). You get access to all instruments, standard payouts (up to 90%), and the full platform suite. There are no monthly fees, no inactivity fees, and no account-maintenance charges of any kind. This is the account 90% of Kenyan traders will use.

Pro account - $1,000+ deposits

Unlocks once you have deposited a total of $1,000. Pro status brings 2% higher payouts (up to 92% on most instruments), priority support, and access to advanced trading tools. Pro accounts also receive faster withdrawal processing.

VIP account - highest tier

The top tier, unlocking at higher deposit thresholds (typically $5,000+). VIP status brings all Pro benefits plus payouts up to 95% on most instruments, a dedicated account manager, and exclusive trading signals. This tier is designed for high-volume traders who generate significant commission for the broker.

Start with the free demo - no deposit required

Practice on real market prices with $10,000 virtual funds. No credit card, no M-Pesa, no risk.

04 - Registration & KYC - what I went through

Signing up took me under three minutes. The form asks for email, password, and currency (USD recommended for Kenyan traders to avoid conversion fees). You land immediately on the platform with a demo account. No credit card, no ID, no friction.

The friction comes later. Before you can withdraw - and in my experience, before some deposit methods unlock - you must complete KYC verification. This means uploading:

  • A government-issued photo ID (Kenyan national ID, passport, or driving permit)
  • Proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, or Safaricom statement dated within the last three months)

My verification was approved in 24 hours. Two colleagues in the audit took 30 and 36 hours respectively. The variance seems to depend on document quality - blurry photos get bounced. Use good lighting, all four corners visible, and a colour scan rather than a phone photo of a printed document if you can.

The registration-to-first-trade journey on Quotex - under three minutes for the account, up to 36 hours for full KYC clearance.

My suggestion: complete KYC the moment you sign up, even before you deposit. When you eventually want to withdraw - especially your first withdrawal - you do not want to be waiting on document review while your profits sit in limbo.

05 - Deposits & M-Pesa - how my KES 16,000 got in

Quotex does not offer direct M-Pesa integration. Deposits from Kenya are processed through third-party payment agents listed inside the official Quotex cashier. This is a critical distinction: you must only ever send money to the agent details shown inside your own Quotex account. Never send money to an M-Pesa number shared via WhatsApp, Telegram, or email - those are scammers impersonating Quotex.

My actual deposit journey

I deposited KES 16,000 in two tranches:

  1. Tranche 1 - KES 8,000 (~$62) via M-Pesa payment agent. The agent Paybill appeared inside the Quotex cashier. I sent from my registered Safaricom line, entered the M-Pesa confirmation code (the "SHJ..." reference) into the Quotex confirmation box, and the funds appeared in my trading balance in 8 minutes.
  2. Tranche 2 - KES 8,000 (~$62) via Visa card. Processed instantly, no fees.

Both deposits were fee-free. The M-Pesa route is the most convenient for Kenyan traders, but the card route is faster if you have a debit or credit card you are comfortable using online.

Other deposit methods available in Kenya

  • M-Pesa via payment agent - 8 minutes in our test, no fee
  • Visa / Mastercard - instant, no fee
  • Bank wire transfer - 1-3 business days, possible correspondent bank fees
  • Cryptocurrency (BTC, ETH, LTC, USDT) - 10-60 minutes depending on network congestion
  • Skrill, Neteller, Perfect Money - e-wallet options, instant

06 - Withdrawals, timed end-to-end

This is the section I care about most, because a broker that pays in fast but pays out slow is a loan shark wearing a trading costume. Here is what actually happened during my 45-day audit:

Withdrawal #1 - M-Pesa
26 hoursKES 5,170 · via agent
Withdrawal #2 - M-Pesa
48 hoursKES 15,510 · via agent
Withdrawal #3 - Visa
3 days$100 · card refund
Fee policy
Zero feesOn all withdrawals

Both M-Pesa withdrawals cleared into my Safaricom wallet without issues. Quotex claims that most withdrawals are processed within 1-3 business days, and my tests confirmed this - the 26-hour and 48-hour withdrawals were typical. Note that these are slower than some competitors like Deriv (which processes within 30 minutes to 2 hours), but they're still within acceptable ranges.

Important withdrawal rules

  • Zero withdrawal fees. Unlike IQ Option's 2% fee after the first free monthly withdrawal, Quotex charges nothing on withdrawals regardless of method or frequency. This is genuinely generous.
  • Withdrawals go back to the deposit method. If you deposited via M-Pesa, your withdrawal goes to M-Pesa. If via card, it goes back to the card. This is an anti-money-laundering requirement, not Quotex being difficult.
  • Minimum withdrawal is $10. Anything below this will be rejected.
  • Quotex reserves the right to take up to 5 business days to review a withdrawal request. This is in their terms and conditions - most withdrawals are faster, but they can take longer.
  • Pro and VIP accounts get priority processing. Withdrawals for higher-tier accounts are typically processed faster than Standard accounts.

My suggestion: Quotex's zero-fee withdrawal policy is genuinely generous - take advantage of it. Withdraw profits regularly rather than letting them compound in your account. The broker's financial health is not your concern; your capital is.

07 - Trading platforms - where you will actually spend your time

Quotex offers two ways to trade. I used both during the audit. Here is the honest ranking.

1. Web platform - the best one

The browser-based platform at quotex.io is the one I spent 75% of my audit time on. It is fast, clean, and runs well even on a 3G connection in rural Kenya - which matters when you are trading from a matatu or a village with patchy 4G. The charting is solid, with multiple candlestick types, drawing tools and indicators. It is not as polished as IQ Option's TradingView-powered interface, but it is more than adequate for most traders.

2. Mobile app (iOS & Android)

The Quotex app is available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store - a genuine advantage over Pocket Option and some other brokers that require APK sideloading on Android. The app is well-built, with order fills averaging 0.7 seconds on majors during my London-session tests. The mobile charting is almost as capable as the web version, and push notifications for trade results and promotions are genuinely useful.

3. MetaTrader 4 - not available

Quotex does not offer MT4 or MT5 integration. If you rely on custom Expert Advisors, third-party indicators, or algorithmic trading, Quotex is not the right broker for you. Look at Deriv or a CMA-licensed forex broker instead.

08 - Markets & instruments - 400+ assets, the largest selection

Quotex's asset shelf is the largest in the offshore binary space, covering everything from major forex pairs to obscure cryptocurrencies. Here is the breakdown:

Forex pairs
~50Majors, minors & exotics
Stocks
~80US, EU, Asian markets
Cryptocurrencies
~100Incl. major & altcoins
Commodities
~40Metals, energy, agriculture
Indices
~30Global benchmarks
OTC weekend
YesBroker-generated quotes

Forex is the tightest market - EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY and the other majors run payouts of up to 90% on Standard accounts and 95% on VIP accounts during the London-New York overlap. Exotic pairs and off-peak hours drop to 75-80%, which is still competitive but not headline material.

Cryptocurrencies trade 24/7, including weekends, with payouts around 85-90% on BTC/USD and ETH/USD. Stocks trade during their underlying exchange hours - so NYSE-listed names are only available during the US session (4:30 PM to 11:00 PM EAT). Commodities and indices follow their respective market hours.

One warning about OTC weekend markets: Quotex offers OTC trading on weekends, but these quotes are generated by Quotex itself, not a real exchange. Liquidity, spreads and payout behaviour differ from weekday markets. Trade them cautiously and with smaller sizes than you would use on live markets.

09 - Fees, payouts & leverage - the full cost picture

Quotex's fee structure is simpler than most brokers, which is a genuine advantage. Here is what you actually pay:

Deposits & withdrawals

  • Deposits: Free on all methods. No hidden conversion fees beyond the standard Safaricom or card-issuer charges.
  • Withdrawals: Free on all methods, all the time. No monthly caps, no percentage fees. This is genuinely generous.

Payouts

On binary options, Quotex does not charge a separate commission. The cost is built into the payout percentage - a 90% payout means you keep 90% of your stake on a winning trade, and the broker's 10% edge is the fee. On Pro accounts, payouts increase to 92%, and on VIP accounts, payouts increase to 95% on most instruments. During my audit, I logged an average payout of 88.7% on Standard accounts and 93.5% on VIP accounts across 150+ trades.

Quotex claims payouts of "up to 98%" in some marketing materials. This is misleading - that figure applies to specific high-risk instruments during specific time windows, not typical payouts. The realistic range is 85-95% for most instruments during peak hours.

Leverage

Quotex is a binary options broker, so leverage in the traditional forex sense does not apply. Each trade is a fixed-risk, all-or-nothing contract. You cannot lose more than your stake on a single trade, which is a genuine advantage for risk management. However, this also means you cannot use leverage to amplify gains - you are limited to the payout percentage.

Other fees

  • Inactivity fee: None. Quotex does not charge for account inactivity.
  • Currency conversion: 2% fee if your account currency differs from the instrument currency. Open a USD account to avoid this entirely.
  • Bonus turnover: If you accept a deposit bonus, you must trade a certain volume before withdrawing the bonus portion. This is not a fee, but it is a restriction - read the terms carefully.

10 - The demo account - your most underrated tool

I cannot overstate how important Quotex's demo account is. It is free, unlimited in duration, refillable on demand, and gives you access to 400+ instruments and every platform feature including social trading. The demo runs on real market prices, so the fills, spreads and slippage you experience are genuine.

During my audit, I used the demo to:

  • Test three different strategies before risking real money
  • Measure actual payout percentages across 35+ instruments at different times of day
  • Stress-test the mobile app on a low-end Android phone over 3G
  • Practice social trading by copying top-ranked traders

Most brokers offer demos that expire after 7 or 14 days, or that restrict you to a handful of instruments. Quotex's demo does neither. Use it aggressively before you deposit a single shilling.

11 - Social trading - copy successful traders

Quotex offers social trading features that allow you to follow and automatically copy successful traders. This is one of the broker's genuine differentiators, though not as advanced as Pocket Option's copy trading system.

How it works

You can browse trader profiles, view their performance statistics (win rate, total profit, number of trades), and set up automatic copying with customizable risk parameters. You decide how much of your balance to allocate to each trader you copy, and you can stop copying at any time.

During my audit, I tested social trading for one week. I selected two traders with win rates above 70% and allocated 10% of my balance to each. The results were mixed - one of the two traders was profitable during the test period, but the other lost money. Overall, the social trading feature generated a small profit, but it was not as consistent as I'd hoped.

The reality check

Social trading is not a magic bullet. Past performance does not guarantee future results, and even successful traders have losing streaks. The feature is genuinely useful for learning how experienced traders structure their entries and manage risk, but it's not a substitute for developing your own strategy.

My suggestion: Use social trading as a learning tool, not as your primary trading strategy. Observe how successful traders operate, then develop your own approach based on what you learn.

12 - Customer support - 24/7, but slower than competitors

Quotex offers 24/7 live chat, email support, and a ticket system. During my audit, I opened 8 support tickets at various times, including two at 2 AM EAT on a Saturday. Here is what I found:

  • Live chat: Average response time was 5 minutes 30 seconds during business hours, and 22 minutes during off-hours. Responses were knowledgeable but slower than competitors like Olymp Trade or ExpertOption.
  • Email: Replies came within 6-10 hours on weekdays, and 14-20 hours on weekends.
  • Phone: Not available. Quotex does not offer phone support.

The support team is adequate but not exceptional. They are slower than the best brokers I've tested, and the lack of phone support is a genuine disadvantage for complex issues. If you need fast, high-quality support, Quotex is not the best choice.

13 - Pros & cons - the uncomfortable summary

What worked

  • Highest payouts in offshore binary space - up to 95% on VIP accounts
  • Largest asset selection - 400+ instruments, more than any competitor
  • Free, unlimited demo account with full feature access
  • M-Pesa funding via agent works reliably - 8-minute deposits in our test
  • Zero withdrawal fees on all methods
  • Three-tier account structure rewards higher deposits with better payouts
  • Social trading feature - copy successful traders
  • Mobile app available on Play Store and App Store - no sideloading
  • Fast registration - under 3 minutes

What hurt

  • IFMRRC-only membership - weakest regulatory wrapper on this list, no investor compensation
  • No direct M-Pesa integration - agent route only
  • Withdrawals slower than competitors (26-48 hours vs. 30 minutes for Deriv)
  • No phone support - email and chat only
  • Customer support is slower than best-in-class brokers
  • No MT4/MT5 bridge for algorithmic traders
  • "Up to 98% payouts" marketing is misleading - realistic range is 85-95%
  • Platform charting is good but not best-in-class
  • Social trading is less advanced than Pocket Option's copy trading

Quotex Safety and Regulation in Kenya

Is quotex a good broker in kenya

Unlike regulated platforms such as eToro, IQ Option, and Deriv, Quotex falls into the category of unregulated binary options trading platforms.

However, just because Quotex is not regulated by the Capital Markets Authority in Kenya (or any other financial regulatory authorit for that matter), doesn’t automatically disqualify it as a legit broker.

In the binary options trading landscape, other renowned platforms like Pocket Option and RaceOption also operate unregulated in various regions, yet they’ve built a strong reputation among traders. This demonstrates that regulation, while lending credibility, is not the only measure of a platform’s authenticity or effectiveness.

Our first-hand experience with Quotex, having used the platform extensively, reveals a robust trading environment. Besides, Quotex implements top-tier security measures that ensure all your trades and transactions remain secure. It operates under On Spot LLC. Group, a company which, while based offshore, aligns with international norms of trading and financial safety regulations similar to platforms like ExpertOption.

In terms of regulation, here’s how Quotex compares with other popular binary options trading platforms in Kenya:

  • Pocket Option: Pocket Option is regulated by the Mwali International Services Authority with license number T2023322. While not a strong regulation jurisdiction, this is better than not being regulated.
  • ExpertOption: ExpertOption is an active member of the Financial Commission, and indepedent body that helps to resolve disputes between traders and brokers.
  • Binomo: Like ExpertOption, Binomo is also an active member of The Financial Commision. The broker has been a Category”A” member of The Financial Commission since May 2018.
  • Olymp Trade: Olymp Trade is licensed and regulated by the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission and is also a member of The Financial Commission.
  • IQ Option: IQ Option is owned by Goshawk Finance LLC, a company registered in St Kitts and Nevis. There’s no information available about their regulation status and it’s safe to assume they are largely unregulated.
  • Deriv: Deriv is regulated in 3 offshore juridictions including the British Virgin Islands, Labuan, and Vanuatu. It’s one of the most extensively regulated binary options brokers in Kenya.

  • We were able to make our initial deposit on Quotex using M-Pesa, a popular mobile payment system in Kenya. The transaction was seamless and our trading account was credited almost instantly. This stands shoulder to shoulder with other platforms like IQ Option and Olymp Trade which also support M-Pesa deposits.

  • The minimum deposit amount on Quotex is $10 (approximately 1,460 Kenya shillings at the time of writing), This makes trading on the platform accessible for beginners to start trading without a significant financial commitment.

  • Deposits are processed swiftly, with most methods crediting your account within minutes. This rapid processing allows traders to take advantage of market movements without delay.

  • Withdrawal times vary depending on the method chosen. Cryptocurrency transfers are typically the fastest, often completed within minutes. Bank transfers may take several business days.

Trade Size on Quotex

As a part of our in-depth analysis of Quotex’s trading conditions, we put a sharp focus on trade size.

Essentially, the minimum trade size on Quotex is just $1. This low entry point makes it accessible for traders of all experience levels, allowing beginners to test the waters without risking large sums of money.

Let’s consider an example to make it clearer. Let’s say you’re a new trader with an initial trading budget of $100.

On Quotex, you can effectively place up to 100 trades of $1 each, giving you maximum exposure and experience without dwindling your budget rapidly.

On the other hand, the maximum trade size on Quotex is $1000. This allows more seasoned traders or those with larger budgets to execute bolder strategies.

For instance, if you’re a seasoned trader with a budget of $5000, you could place five trades at the maximum amount, capitalizing on positive market situations.

Quotex Demo Account

The good news for beginners and those who wish to familiarize themselves with the Quotex platform before investing real money is that Quotex does indeed offer a demo account.

This account, loaded with USD 10,000 virtual funds, allows you to simulate real trading situations and explore the platform’s various tools and features without risking a single cent of your hard-earned money.

The Biggest Downside of Using Quotex in Kenya

While there are many advantages of using Quotex in Kenya, you shouldn’t overlook some potential downsides associated with its registration in St. Kitts and Nevis.

It might raise some concerns for discerning and cautious traders.

When dealing with binary options platforms registered in such offshore zones, there are always questions about their transparency and accountability coverage.

For instance, should any legal disputes arise, the remote location and differing jurisdiction could pose a challenge for Kenyan traders.

The isolation from main global financial districts might complicate matters when seeking resolution or trying to enforce any form of regulatory compliance.

You should keep these factors in mind when you compare Quotex with other platforms such as Binomo or IQ Option.
